Dominie Garcia leads Battelle’s Smart Cities Program, bringing a combination of strategy, planning, organization design, and connected and smart systems expertise to the growing smart cities community. She has spent much of the last decade working with the USDOT, as well as commercial and regional organizations in the areas of intelligent transportation systems, and connected vehicle research, development, and deployment.
Dr. Garcia has been engaged in the smart cities community for the past several years, participating in many of the nascent working groups and industry collaborations to define the smart city ecosystem and begin the process of envisioning, planning, building coalitions, and preparing for deployments of smart city technologies. Smart cities and their related technologies will produce step changes in improvement of citizen services and address many livability, workability, and sustainability challenges.
At Battelle, Dr. Garcia is focused on the organization’s central role in the Smart Columbus project, as well as bringing Battelle’s full suite of capabilities in transportation and mobility, health and environmental sciences, data analytics, and cyber security to bear on smart cities projects around the country. She holds a PhD in systems engineering and organizational design from Georgia Tech, as well as an MBA from Babson College and BA from Vassar College.
