Jorge Varela

Jorge Varela is a successful entrepreneur and business startup coach with expertise in growth and market strategies, business development, startup funding, and economic development through entrepreneurial activities. He has started, or been a part of the executive team, at numerous companies most notably in telecommunications, software, and information technology, with financially successful exits in each market segment.

Jorge is a national speaker on topics on entrepreneurship, startup funding, and the entrepreneurial eco-system most recently testifying to the 2015 Texas House Committee on Finance and Investments on governmental funding strategies as a means to drive economic growth.

Jorge is the Assistant Director of TECH Fort Worth, a non-profit focused on helping entrepreneurs launch and grow emerging technology companies through programs that include Cowtown Angels, an angel investors network.  He is also Associate Director of Entrepreneurship at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

Jorge has advised and provided startup assistance in the launch of new angel groups in Texas and Louisiana. He has served on the University Angels Committee and was part of the AIE 2015 Event Committee for the Angel Capital Association and is a reviewer for the National Science Foundation on Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR and STTR) grants.

Current Boards he serves on include the International Business Innovation Association, Bio North Texas, and the Alliance of Texas Angel Networks where he also serves as Chair of the Executive Directors Committee.

Jorge is a native of Belize, has lived in Mexico and Germany, but for the most part calls USA home although his business experience and personal interests are international and multicultural.
